ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — One person was killed Monday morning in a four-vehicle hit-and-run crash on Orange Blossom Trail at Americana Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the vehicle that left the scene, Guatemalan national Valentin Oswaldo Sis Sis, 30, was found nearby and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment, troopers said.

DEAD: Brett Adams was in a 2001 Mercury stopped behind another vehicle in the center lane of northbound Orange Blossom Trail at Americana Boulevard about 3:10 a.m. when the crash happened, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes.

He admitted leaving the scene and has never had a license in the seven years he’s lived in the U.S., investigators said.

Sis Sis was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.

PASADENA >> A drunken driver ran from the scene of an early-morning crash on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena that left a Monrovia man dead, authorities said.

Eduardo Macias, 24, of Pasadena was found and arrested about two hours after the 1 a.m. crash on the eastbound 134 Freeway, just west of Orange Grove Boulevard and the 210 Freeway, California Highway Patrol officials said in a written statement.

Killed was a 41-year-old Monrovia man, officials said. His identity was not released Sunday.

Officials responded to reports of a multi-vehicle wreck and found a crash involving three vehicles, described as a 1998 Toyota, a 1992 Toyota and a 2016 Honda, according to the CHP.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics pronounced the driver of the 1992 Toyota dead at the scene, officials said. Two 18-year-old women inside the Honda were treated for injuries not believed to be serious.

The driver of the 1998 Toyota — later identified as Macias — fled from the scene on foot, according to the CHP statement.

CHP officers found and arrested Macias about two hours later, CHP Officer Monica Posada said.

After examination at a hospital, Macias was expected to be booked for felony drunken driving, she said. Additional charges, such as hit-and-run, may be sought by prosecutors later as well. ...MORE

Paramedics arriving at the scene pronounced 41-year-old Christopher Richard Nelson dead at the scene. The coroner’s office didn’t have his city of residence, but the CHP reported he was from Monrovia and was driving a 1992 Toyota.

SALISBURY, MD. – The Maryland State Police report the DUI and speeding arrest of Ray Perdue, a chicken flock family member, near the town made famous by the tender chicken peddler.  The respected businessman and famous grandfather of one of the city’s newest DUI drivers was a tough man with a lead foot who killed one person while speeding. Now a family offspring is primed to pick up where the late chicken huckster left off.

Forbes sets the worth of the Perdue Family at over $2 billion making a driver for Ray Perdue an easy way to assure that he doesn’t kill one of their customers or himself while driving drunk.

Raymond Elwood Perdue, of 3851 Algonquin Trail in Snow Hill, Md., was arrested on Feb. 20, 2016, at 8:29 pm by Maryland State Trooper J. Meier while he was operating a 2010 Mercury at double the posted speed limit of 35 mph on Riverside Drive at South Blvd.  The speeding fine is $290.  Perdue likely won’t have to take out a loan from his bank to pay the fine.

A more agreeable fine of $90 awaits Perdue’s conviction on changing lanes when unsafe; a ticket awarded him on the same date and place. Running a red light was another item on the menu for the heir to the chicken fortune and now the heir to his well-known predecessor in the driving infraction record books, Frank Perdue.

Frank Perdue died in 2005 at the age of 84 after building his egg business into one of America’s largest poultry processers – Perdue Farms.  Perdue turned the company over to his son, Jim Perdue, in 1991, and who still runs the family-owned firm.

The late chicken chief garnered 37 separate traffic violations which The Washington Post reported resulted in 34 convictions, with most of them for speeding.

Like his famous family member, Ray Perdue was charged with speeding and ran a red light but unlike Frank Perdue, he has yet to kill someone.

Perdue Farms and the Perdue family are fundraisers and donors for most every public event, charity, and educational entity on the Eastern Shore while providing jobs for thousands in Delmarva and tens of thousands around the world.

On Aug. 16, 1989, The Post reported the following:

“(Frank) Perdue was also driving a rented car from New York in October 1974 when he had the accident that claimed the life of a 45-year-old Philadelphia chemist. The 1974 fatal car crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which occurred while Perdue was on probation for motor vehicle offenses committed in his home state of Maryland, resulted in his arrest on Dec. 19, 1974, on an involuntary manslaughter charge. Conviction on such a charge is automatic grounds for losing driving privileges.

The charge was dismissed in May 1975, however, after prosecutors failed to present the case to a grand jury in time for trial. Details of the legal wrangling that followed the traffic accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike were made public for the first time recently in Southern Exposure magazine, published by the nonprofit Institute for Southern Studies in Durham, N.C.

The information appeared in an article accompanying a story about poor working conditions in the poultry industry. All criminal records about the manslaughter case were expunged several years ago at the request of Perdue’s attorneys, who included now-U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), who was retained by Perdue after serving as a Philadelphia district attorney. But a Farmers Home Administration investigative report obtained by the magazine under the Freedom of Information Act says Perdue was arrested, charged with reckless homicide, and released on $500 bond. The report was prepared as part of a background check when Perdue applied for a federal loan. According to a civil suit that Perdue later settled with the widow and four children of the victim, Harold V. Smith, the accident occurred when Perdue did not heed warning signs and red lights in a highway construction zone. The suit alleges he was trying to pass a string of slow-moving cars when the road suddenly narrowed into two-way traffic. Perdue, traveling the wrong way, hit Smith’s car head-on. Smith died at the scene from massive chest injuries, and Perdue suffered a broken nose, according to sources familiar with the incident. But somewhere along the line, the criminal case was lost in the judicial bureaucracy and the state ran out of time to present it to a grand jury because Pennsylvania had enacted a new law requiring criminal trials to begin within 180 days of an arrest, the Farmers Home Administration report said. The case was dismissed, and Maryland officials never learned of the accident, which could have resulted in license revocation. Perdue also managed to avoid problems with the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles during the two-year period in the mid-1970s after the accident, when he accumulated nine points in violations. Records show, however, that after Perdue was called in for a disciplinary hearing — his third in eight years — he received three months of probation, an action akin to a warning. During this same period, a prosecutor in Worcester County withdrew a speeding ticket worth an additional two points after Perdue contested it in court. In dropping the charge, the prosecutor cited what he called Perdue’s satisfactory driving record, which contained no convictions in the six months after the alleged violation. Perdue actually had two outstanding violations, but they did not appear on his record because he had not yet paid the fines.  MORE

South Carolina Prosecutor Busted for DUI After Claiming Falsely He Was Forced Off Road

Lexington, SC – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is releasing information regarding the arrest of Prosecutor Donnie Myers on February 22, 2016.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol was called to the scene of Old Chapin Road and Beech Creek Road in Lexington just before 8 p.m. to investigate a single vehicle collision.

Troopers found that a 2007 Lexus had been traveling northbound on Old Chapin Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Beech Creek Road. The vehicle ran off the roadway, striking a utility pole. There was no occupant with the vehicle. Troopers went to the residence of Myers in Lexington and after interviewing him determined that he was the driver of the vehicle and was found to be driving under the influence at the time of the collision.

Myers was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Richland County Detention Center where he was offered a datamaster breath test, which resulted in a 0.09% blood alcohol content. ( Myers was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center due to his position as the solicitor of the 11th Judicial Circuit, which includes Lexington County).

SCHP has released Mr. Myers into the custody of the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

AIKEN, S.C. — In newly released dashcam video footage showing the arrest of 11th Circuit Solicitor Donnie Myers on Monday night, the chief prosecutor involved in the Justin Craven case tells a S.C. Highway Patrol trooper “some (expletive) ran me off the road.”

Myers was arrested Monday night and charged with driving under the influence; Myers is the prosecutor involved in the case against former North Augusta Department of Public Safety officer Justin Craven, who was charged with fatally shooting an Edgefield County man in February 2014.

The responding trooper found a 2007 Lexus at the scene that had been traveling west on Old Chapin Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Beech Creek Road, according to a collision report. The vehicle ran off the roadway, striking a utility pole, according to the report.

The incident report said the responding trooper opened the vehicle and could smell a strong odor of alcohol and observed a pistol on the driver’s side floor board.

Troopers went to Myers’ home in Lexington and determined that he was the driver of the Lexus and was found to be driving under the influence at the time of the collision.

In the Highway Patrol video footage provided to the Aiken Standard by Columbia-based newspaper The State, Myers is questioned by the Highway Patrol trooper in his garage.

The trooper asks Myers, “What’s going on?” to which Myers responds, “Well, I’m a little hurt.”

In the video, Myers rejects ambulance help and says he was hit in the nose, telling the trooper “Some (expletive) ran me off the road” and a man he didn’t know picked him up.

“I told him to get me the hell out of here. … Don’t know who the hell it was,” Myers tells the trooper in the video recording.

Myers is recorded saying in the video that he started drinking around 7 p.m.; however, according to the incident report, Myers said he had only one drink at an establishment in Lexington and hadn’t had anymore to drink after the collision.

Myers was placed under arrest for DUI after failing the standardized field sobriety test.

The field sobriety test is recorded on the video – the trooper asks Myers to place one foot in front of another, and Myers responds he can’t due to multiple back and knee operations.

The trooper then asks Myers to count from one to four using his fingers, and repeatedly, the trooper asks him to complete the task.

At the end of the sobriety test, the trooper asks Myers to say his ABC’s.

On the first try, Myers is unable to complete the task, appearing to laugh afterward, and he stops at the letter “P” during his second try, according to the video footage.

After Myers is placed under arrest and read his Miranda Rights, the trooper tells Myers to spit out his chewing tobacco.

Walking to the trooper’s vehicle, Myers tells the trooper “I can’t believe you’re doing this.”

Myers, with the 11th Judicial Circuit, which covers portions of Edgefield, Lexington and Saluda counties, was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center due to his position.

He was administered a datamaster breath test, resulting in a .09 percent blood alcohol content, above the state’s .08 percent legal limit.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Myers has an attorney; however, Myers’ first court date has been scheduled for 9 a.m. March 21 in Lexington.

Myers’ DUI charge is his second since 2005.

The 70-year-old attorney, first elected chief prosecutor in 1976, was arrested in 2005 for driving under the influence after attending a conference in Asheville, North Carolina. Police told The State that Myers’ blood alcohol level was tested twice, registering .14 and .13 percent. North Carolina’s legal level of alcohol consumption is .08.

Then in 2012, Myers was ticketed for having an open container of alcohol in his car after a Highway Patrol trooper stopped him for suspicion of driving under the influence. In that case, he was given a field sobriety test, issued a ticket and allowed to drive home after a 15-minute traffic stop.  ….MORE

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC. – 02/28/2016 — Richland County Councilman Kelvin Washington has been charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with an early Saturday night crash in Lower Richland.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Washington struck a vehicle in front of him when that vehicle slowed down on Bluff Road near Martin Luther King Boulevard in Hopkins. Both vehicles were traveling east, the patrol said. The 22-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, and another passenger, along with Washington, were transported with minor injuries, according to the patrol.

City Finance Director Rochester DWI arrest

New York: Mayor of Rochester not bothered by DWI arrest of boozing Finance Director Charles Benincasa; how good can this guy count City money when he can’t count his beers?

Rochester, N.Y. – A Rochester man was charged with DWI Thursday night.

State Police said they received a 911 call around 8:40 p.m. Thursday after a hit and run crash at a McDonald’s on Culver Road.

A short time later, Rochester Police pulled over 59-year-old Charles Benincasa on Ohio Street. State Police were called to assist.

Police later learned that there was no hit and run.

Benincasa was taken to the State Police station on Scottsville Road, processed and released.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the DWI charge in Rochester city court on March 24.
